I'm aware of that. It may be quite normal in Ireland, but when presented to the average Englishman it results in confusion.

I've met several Clare/Claires and Steven/Stephens in my life who get disproportionately annoyed when people understandably use the alternative spelling

My mother in law can't spell for toffee so my brother in law is Daren.
A welsh customer at work called Trevor spells his name Trefor.

Niamh is trad Irish spelling. Like Pádraig. Nothing unusual there.

Once worked with a girl called Kaytlynne, who was very much English and a bit chavvy. Her parents were clearly trying too hard.

I'll offer this one, which although not common, is quite interesting. There is a girl's name "Niamh" which is pronounced "Neeve".
